In 1948, Herno was established by Giuseppe Marenzi and his wife Alessandra Diana. Located in Lesa, surrounded by the rainy, humid climate of Lake Maggiore, the company drew its initial inspiration from the weather and the nearby river, Erno. Consequently, their first products were raincoats. Transitioning into the 1960s, cashmere coats became a new addition, followed by women’s jackets, suits and dresses. Herno is now headed by Giuseppe’s youngest son, Claudio Marenzi. Throughout the years, the values of Herno have remained the same, revolving around four themes: Erno, excellence, ethics and ecological sustainability. Erno is a constant reminder of how and why they began. Excellence derives from their desire to go above and beyond with each product, using revolutionary production processes alongside traditional methods. Ethics relates to the company’s devotion to Italian culture, and honesty regarding production (nylon coats are made in Romania in sites directly controlled by Herno). Last of all, ecological sustainability refers to their respect for the Italian countryside – using completely restructured, energy saving machinery to improve the environment, as well as the working environment for the dedicated workers of Herno.
