In 1967, Lawrence Covell, better known as Lawry, began his entrepreneurial pursuit. On a Boulder hill in a space of only 350 square feet, Phantasmagoria was established. While flipping through the pages of a dictionary, this unique word struck Lawry as a fitting name for his business: a sequence of real or imaginary images like those seen in a dream. The ‘60s were in full force – a true era of phantasmagoria. Originally, Phantasmagoria sold leather goods such as sandals, belts, watchbands, leather garments and accessories. In 1978, Lawry stopped manufacturing leather products, putting his focus on his retail business, Lawrence Covell. After a suggestion from his son, Joe Covell, in 2010 to create a line of belts for the store, Lawry was back at it. The Phantasmagoria brand is back and better than ever.
